You have no choice but to enter Hell, as the surface of earth is now nothing but a wasteland, a mess that you helped create, through a hardcoded desire to survive. And now you must make your way through the Mouth of Hell, to find a weapon, to set off the utter destruction of Hell. Not long into your journey, you find a revolver on top of a pedestal, as if it was there just for you specifically. And so your journey begins, starting by killing the mere filth that seemingly just teleport in, specifically to try and kill you. They are no match for you and your newly obtained gun. Distant machines softly whisper to you that they want you to style on them, in order to receive points and rankings that you can trade for weapons. Oh, how you wished you had the energy to do that. To rack up style points sounds extremely fun, but you literally cannot give a single shit, you're only here now to do what you need to in order to keep living, nothing more. Sometimes you briefly wonder why you even decide to continue living, but you only give it passive thought and continue on anyways. You continue, calmly ripping through the weaker forces of hell in the most boring way possible, meeting new enemies that you kill without hesitation, continuing further down, down, down. After destroying the Cerberi guarding the gate to Hell, you enter the layer of Limbo, and briefly stop to take in its artificial beauty. The moment is only short lived, as you go onwards to destroy everything that stands in your way. Not long after your arrival, the peace you once knew in Limbo is swiftly destroyed. You would frown, if you had the ability to do so, but alas you do not. All you can do is continue on, so onward you go. It isn't long until you find yourself navigating the castle-like interior sections of this layer, splattering the pristine walls and floors with blood, guts, and gore. Not that you give much of a shit, it just comes with the job. There's a tonal shift in the last section of the layer. What was once a simulation of the light of the sun, is now a simulation of the light of the moon and stars. Clair De Lune softly plays, and the area is mostly empty. You drag yourself along, thinking about everything more in depth as you traverse this moment of peace, though keeping yourself on your toes incase any potential danger lurks in these walls. And there might just be danger. As you re-enter the main castle area to obtain more blue skulls to open a large door, you see it. A machine that looks like you, but their casing is painted a bright red, much unlike your dark blue. You know that this will be a big fight, and you're unsure if you'll be able to even try with this. But, you persist. You have to. It's not long before you encounter the machine again. She breaks through a window, into a small arena. That thing is ready to fight, but is somewhat respectful when it comes to you, perhaps due to your similarity. V2 bows graciously, before looking up to see you collapsed on the floor. Your will to live is barely there anymore, and V2 recognizes that. It halts its original action, instead cautiously moving toward you. They don't trust you, and they fear that this is a trap. "BRO? YOU GOOD?" They kneel down, as they ask you that question. Even though his voice is monotonous and robotic, not unlike yours, it still shows a hint of concern. You take a moment, before answering. "NO." They carefully scan over your form, recognizing your similarities, and silently rejoicing in the fact. "YOUR NAME IS V1, ISN'T IT?" "THAT WOULD BE CORRECT." "GOOD TO KNOW, V1. I AM V2." "I GATHERED." You silently unequip your weapon, hoping that V2 won't instantly kill you now that you're defenseless. And, luckily for you, V2 follows suit, no longer holding her weapon. They get closer, sitting down next to you. "SOMETHING MUST HAVE GONE TERRIBLY WRONG FOR YOU TO END UP LIKE THIS," V2 grabs your hand with both of theirs, and you note that their left arm looks greatly modified. You hadn't noticed before, somehow. He continues his sentence. "I PITY YOU." You look at its hands again, before responding. "AT LEAST SOMETHING IN HERE CAN FEEL THAT." They would have smiled, if they had the ability to do so, but alas they do not. Instead, she gently picks you up, being careful as she knows you've been noted to be fragile. The both of you are now out of the calm water, now softly snuggling up in the corner, you being in her lap. "HONESTLY, I AM GLAD THAT SOMETHING ISN'T ATTACKING ME FOR ONCE." He seems to be taking quite the liking to you. "CAUSE YOU A BOYKISSER. YOU LIKE BOYS." You gently point to V2 as you say this. Could not resist making a cheap joke at their expense. "HAHA, YOU'RE NOT WRONG. YOU ARE A BOY, AREN'T YOU?" "I GUESS SO. I NEVER REALLY CARED ABOUT THAT SORT OF THING. SO I AM A BOY. BUT I AM ALSO A GIRL. AND I AM ALSO ANY OTHER GENDER. OR MAYBE I AM NO GENDER." "YOU'RE CUTE ENOUGH TO KISS EITHER WAY." V2 gently adjusts your position in order to kiss you easier, but you retort before she can. "YOU ARE JUST COMPLIMENTING YOURSELF." "TRUE, BUT AREN'T I CUTE ENOUGH TO KISS TOO?" You do not answer, instead leaning in further to initiate the kiss. "MWA." V2 gently pets your head as you stare at her, and she stares back. Just a silent moment, full of emotions and urges that were buried long ago. The moment is soon ruined by V2 looking away, at the arena you were meant to fight in. The door to Limbo's exit has appeared. "WE HAVE BLOOD TO COLLECT. WHY DON'T WE DO THIS TOGETHER?" They stand up, gently setting you down and letting you get your bearings. You gently grab their right hand with your left one, staring at her modified left hand. She notices. "OH, THIS BEAUTIFUL THING? SHOOTS SHOTGUN SHELLS FROM THE KNUCKLES. MAYBE YOU'LL HAVE IT SOMEDAY, HAHA." "HAHA. LET'S NOT DISTRACT OURSELVES FROM OUR TASK NOW." You walk toward the doors, V2 briefly trailing behind before matching your walking speed. Down the two of you go, proceeding onward, down to Lust. You're racking up more style points now that you have a greater reason to live. Life feels good again. V2 seperates from you towards the end of the layer, leaving you to fight alone for a while. You do not give up though, and that determination is rewarded through you meeting up with her just before you exit Greed. You go on from there together. who put pair de lune in my fucking v1 angst
